Founded in Melbourne, Australia, in 1991, Therapod has been at the forefront of ergonomic seating innovation.
Our legacy began with the world’s first patented back support system system through adjustable support straps and dynamic movement. This led to global recognition and licences for manufacturing in Scandinavia, Japan, North America and Australia. As our patent neared expiration, Therapod embarked on an ambitious research project to develop the next technology advancement in ergonomic seating using Biomechanical Intelligence (BI)
FAST FORWARD 30+ YEARS
Therapod X is now the only ergonomic chair with a self-adjusting, fully dynamic back support and a medical-grade pressure distribution seat. This technology is called SensorFit and was researched and built by a team consisting of bioengineers, ergonomist, physiotherapist and engineers for over 5 years.
Fast-forward 30 years later, millions of Therapods have been sold, recommended and specified for fit-outs, offices, homes and by ergonomists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, designers and architects globally.
Therapod chairs are manufactured in Australia, Europe, North America and Taiwan to reduce freight costs and maintain a high manufacturing standard. Therapod X and Nimble are only available through Sit And Move in Australia and Europe.

We research and develop bioengineered technologies
Ergonomic chairs provide support through mechanisms, adjustments, design and material properties. However, they don't offer continued total support whilst seated for extended periods. Therapod addresses this with its patented autonomous technologies - SenseFit and BioSeat.
Therapod chair cost of ownership is lower, and its lifespan is higher
The Therapod chair undergoes reduced stress with fewer fixed parts than traditional office chairs. In addition, Therapod comes with a 20-year warranty on its back technology.

Supplying the patented technology components from one source instead of a complete chair allows Therapod chairs to be built globally. This is a greener and cheaper solution than traditional manufacturing in low cost labour countries. Our assembly and build process is mechanised and supports local industries. Manufacturing in different countries to suit different demographic needs, taste and standards also sets us apart.
